Kids say the darnedest things I remember watching Art Linkletter, RIP,  as a little kid. I was too young to understand what the adults were talking about, but enjoyed the segment where he talked to children. The San Diego City Counsel voted yesterday 7-1 for a resolution to repeal Arizona’s new “immigration law.” The Arizona law, as amended, allows for questioning of immigration status only if stopping, detaining or arresting a person while enforcing another law. The earlier law had referred to a “contact” with police. Immigration and Customs Enforcement seems to be under pressure to deport people. There are conflicting reports about the truth of internal memos from the ICE leadership about quotas for deportation. Remember July? Hotter? Long days and short nights? In July, I had two clients in immigration detention. Nice young women. Neither needed to be detained. Needed in the sense that there was any point to their detention. They were placed into detention months earlier, April. Remember April? Cooler? Shorter days and longer nights? October’s mirror image. Both had trials set for July. The clients hated being in detention – regimentation, bars and locks, crowded, horrible food, noisy, an environment of ignorance. But…
