Eric Holder was the Deputy Attorney General beginning September 5, 1997, until January 20, 2001. Janet Reno was the Attorney General at the time. Then, Mr. Holder became Acting Attorney General when George W. Bush became president until John Ashcroft became Attorney General on February 2, 2001. Most immigration practitioners who practiced in that period, 1997-2001, recall the period as one of the darkest in immigration law practice. Latest mini-scandal result of the nature of U.S. society

President Elect Obama‚Äôs pick to be Secretary of the Treasury, Tim Geithner, was caught in a mini-scandal last week over employing a housekeeper whose employment authorization had apparently lapsed. This is reminiscent of other prominent people involved or interested in becoming involved in government getting involved in similar immigration-related mini-scandals, including Republicans, such as Mitt Romney and Bernie Kerik, and Democrats, such as Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood.
